And so to day 9, the end, the finale, the climax. I will doubtless be running on adrenalin, by this point. It doesn't look too bad, does it, elevation wise? But there look to be a lot of up and downs before the final run-in. Still, the adrenalin... right?

It's funny how LEJOG changes your perspective; I'm looking at day 8 and thinking, "Ah, only 109 miles and 6,700ft of elevation, nice," like that's a rest day or something. Earth to brain, come in brain: it pretty bloody far from a rest day.

Day 7 is the hilliest since day 2, in terms of elevation to climb. But it also crosses the old Forth road bridge, which I'm looking forward to.

16th August - 22nd August
A better week. Too little, too late though?
Day 6 seeks the route cross into southern Scotland. And yes, that's as hilly as you might expect. Hillier than I expected, actually.

Day 5 is one of the longest days, at 116.4 miles. Pretty hilly too. Still, it has lakeland scenery to compensate, or so I'm told... just as well, looking at the hills between miles 75 and 85.

Day 4 is back to the originally planned route. And look, for a LEJOG day, it's pretty flat!

As mentioned yesterday, there have been last minute route changes because of the overnight accommodation issues in Bath. Day 3 is affected too, and has become the only day of the whole undertaking where I'll clock less than 100 miles. Lucky me, right?
Anyway, here's the revised day 3 route: yet another hilly day.

Here's the route for day 2, tweaked at the last minute because we'll no longer be overnighting at the University of Bath. That's a shame, as I was really looking forward to the one night of the expedition where I could sleep in a room, with a bed and a private bathroom, rather than in a tent, in a field. But hey ho, onwards and upwards.
Anyway, here's the revised day 2 route: another pretty hilly day.

Lots of people have been asking exactly where I'll be cycling on the Ride Across Britain LEJOG route. A common misconception is that is runs North to South, because "that must be downhill, right?" But no, the event runs South to North (otherwise it would be JOGLE, not LEJOG).
Anyway, over the next week or two I'll post summaries of each day's stage, so you get an idea of what I'm going to be up against, as well as where I'll be going. Let's start, obviously, with day 1, the day with most elevation to climb: basically, there aren't many flat roads, you're either grinding it out uphill or hanging on for dear life donwhill. Good to get the hilliest day out of the way first, I guess.

9th August - 15th August
Not great, but then I was literally on holiday, so am cutting myself some slack...
2nd August - 8th August
Main bike still being serviced for most of this week, coupled with profound tiredness. Rubbish excuses, I know.
26th July - 1st August
Bike in for its service + a few days away = a pathetic week of cycling. Must do better, quickly.
